I just received a ticket alert for: Yestival: Yes, The Musical Box, Renaissance, and Carl Palmer's ELP Legacy. Wow. 20 years ago I would have eaten this up. Today, as intriguing as that sounds, there's no way I can go sit for eight to ten hours listening to four bands. sad

Did you ever see Nearly Dan, Nigel? They seem to be the essential Steely Dan tribute band around. A couple of mates of me from the IQ forum see them quite regularly.

I've not seen Nearly Dan Thomas, but I've heard good things about them. That said, this will be the 4th time I will have seen Stanley Dee and I've enjoyed all their shows even though I'm not a big Steely Dan fan. My mate is a big Steely Dan fan and thinks that Stanley Dee are spot on. smiley

Just got back from the Pet Shop Boys at the O2 Arena. My verdict? A mixed bag. Some of it was excellent and really got me dancing and singing, whereas other parts made me want to leave the arena. laugh They played several of their best songs. It's A Sin, West End Girls and Always On My Mind were played brilliantly (by far the best three), as well as Integral and Let's Make Lots Of Money, even though they were shortened. But there were some downsides, for example some of the lighting effects were absolutely blinding (extremely fast and flashy with constantly changing colours) and also a lot of visuals were distracting, for example there were a lot of really bizarre costumes and dancers. A few odd songs were also a bit boring.

By far the worst part of the show however was the warm-up act, an unnamed techno musician who played one full hour of the most mind-numbingly aimless electronic music I'd ever heard. My Dad referred to it as torture, and he was right. 60 full minutes of agonising boredom accompanied by an eyesore of a psychedelic effects video. The opening act was way too long. angry In fact, if it wasn't for the opening part, I would have enjoyed the entire show, because the putrid warm-up act got me into a bit of a bad mood. undecided Oh well. The second half of the show was better than the first and cheered me up, and overall it wasn't too bad. A mixed bag.

I'm seeing the Moody Blues at the very same venue on Saturday, and I'm sure it will be much better. More my kind of music too. cool grin

Thanks for the review NSOV. That's me decided now, the flashing lights alone put me off when it's too much. Glad you enjoyed the good bits.

Yeah, the lights were too much. There was one period where I had to cover my eyes because the lights were flashing so fast and for so long that it made me sick. Thankfully these periods of light effects were uncommon. To be honest, it wasn't really my kind of show, I just went along for the fun of it. It was an "experience" at best, and The Moody Blues is bound to be 100x better. smiley cool
