This Saturday was a toss up between Mostly Autumn in Bury or Mama at the Moses Gate but I've been invited to Haydock Park racecourse so maybe a little bit the worse for wear to go to either cool

I'll definitely be going to the Manchester Academy on Monday to watch Marillion though smiley

I'll let you know how it goes! Rather looking forward to this I must admit - I keep coming back to 'Lament' as a favourite album.

Hi there

Next gig for me (apart from orchestral performances) will be this year's Fish Convention in Leamington Spa which should be fun!

Thinking about Marillion, tomorrow at Wolves Civic. Not seen them since the Fish days and am not sure whether I'd still enjoy them undecided

After that, Mick Hucknall, singing American Soul at Royal Albert Hall, next Tuesday. Julie will enjoy it and I'm always open to trying something different.

Back on more familiar ground:

Carpet Crawlers - Stafford, 21st Sept
Radiohead - Manchester MEN, 6th Oct
ReGenesis - Leamington & Bilston, 10th & 18th Oct
10cc - Nottingham, 27th Oct
Muse - Birmingham, 30th Oct

With a left field pick on October 12th, seeing Field Music, at a local venue, Wolverhampton Slade Rooms. Recommended by a friend but I know little or nothing of them wink

Off work with really bad dose of the cold and now having to miss the Pineapple Thief tonight. I really am struggling to function with my head raging and my chesty cough rattling around my body. Simply cannot face standing up for 2-3 hours while my body wants to stay in bed.

Bummer but I managed the Marillion gig - seated and not feeling so unwell at the time.

Marillion gig was fantastic even though I still question the justification of playing 2 songs from 'Somewhere Else' and having nothing from Afraid of Sunlight or This Strange Engine. They did play 'A Few Words from the Dead' as an encore and TBH it is a rotten song and so much else they could have done like Seasons End or Invisible Man for example. 3 tracks from Holidays in Eden but not the best 3 IMO. New stuff sounded fantastic.

Great to see Alibrat and we all dined together. Venue was excellent too.

Sorry to hear that you're not able to go to The Pineapple Thief gig Ned sad

The new album should be with you very soon, although I'm not sure about it yet undecided

The title track All The Wars is stunning, but not overly enamoured (?) with the album as a whole.

Wishbone Ash Oct 6th next up for me

Thanks Alan. If I was being honest, I would say that Bruce has not produced anything equal to Variations. I think the last few albums have been rather samey in style and also notice he has introduced a much harder sound to his music. I know he wants to progress but I would love him to return to his earlier style rather than the harder edge sound that is present on his last couple of albums. Even when I saw them live a year or so ago, and they were very good, they came over pretty heavy whilest in Netherlands in 2007 they were sublime. Part of that is down to the material being featured (in 2007 it was mainly around 137, Variations and perhaps 12 stories down.

Enjoy, as the band are just an amazing experience to see and hear. H is just a talisman for this band and such a showman. Band were very very tight and the new material came over so well that you would think they had rehearsed and played it for years. Gaza is just outstanding live.

I saw them last year just before Christmas, Ned. They were fantastic! I don't know any of the new stuff though.

I had not heard the new album beforehand apart from the song 'Power' but it amazed me on first hearing the new material. I am sure you will really enjoy the show.

Oh, not sure who your support band will be tonight but DeeExpus supported the band in Edinburgh and they were wonderful. I have both albums so knew the material. My wife enjoyed them too.
