The Fish gig was superb, huge stage prescence by the big man, although he is starting to struggle to hit the high notes these days. Great to hear Forgotten Sons and Fugazi again cool

Saw him a few years ago at JBs, Dudley which is now no more, unfortunately!

Massive stage presence!

Kitty and I are going to the Flying Colors gig on September 4th and Neal Morse on October 6th! These will be fantastic shows. If you can make it to one of their stops, I promise you won't be disappointed cool

I received the e-mail (shown below in blue) this morning from Jim Harrel, CalProg promoter, regarding Neal's upcoming tour! He has a new album coming out soon, called "Momentum."

User Image

Tickets Go On Sale Saturday June 9 @ 8AM
Premium-$70, Standard-$55

If any serious fan of the modern progressive rock music was asked to make a list of the top 5 most influential prog musicians of the last 10 years, Neal Morse would most certainly be on every one. His work with Spock's Beard, Transatlantic, Flying Colors and as a solo artist continue to set the bar higher and higher. I've probably seen Neal 10 times but I never get tired of it. And that's because he continues to deliver incredibly complex music mixed with soulful and melodic songs in a heartfelt and entertaining way. There's never any doubt that he LOVES to make music and his natural ability as a front man is second to none. You always feel uplifted and energized after one of his shows and for me, that's what its about.

He will be travelling with his new band that was chosen earlier this year from open auditions held in Nashville. Long time bassist Randy George will be on board as well as (from what I've heard from people that were there) one of the most jaw-dropping multi-talented bunch of musicians ever assembled. And it is possible that he will be joined by Mike Portnoy for these shows, alhough he isn't able to commit yet due to the multitude of projects he's involved in. "If there's ANY WAY I can make it, I will" says Portnoy. "This new album may be the best prog I have EVER played!". And coming from Mike that's a heck of an endorsement. But either way this is sure to be a night of music that will blow your mind.

As always tickets are only available at http://www.calprog.com . And as all CalProg shows it's all ages, all seats reserved.

OTHER CALPROG EVENTS
On Friday June 2 (just 1 week away) Nick D'Virgilio (and a cast of "thousands") will be featuring a night of music from the incredidle late great Kevin Gilbert. The highlight of the show is a fully staged (complete with make-up, costume changes and even some acting) production of his critically acclaimed rock opera "The Shaming of the True". Also featured will be songs from 5 other Kevin Gilbert albums including Thud, Toy Matinee, Kaviar and more. This historic celebration of Kevin Gilbert music is a one time only event and is not to be missed. There are still good seats available in the balcony of the intimate Shannon Center Theater on the Whittier College Campus. You can get them at the CalProg website, or at the door if there are still some left.

And in September we'll be bringing you the first live performance ever of Flying Colors. Riding on the heels of one of the hottest releases of 2012 this band featuring Neal morse, Steve Morse, Mike Portnoy, Dave LaRue and Casey McFerson will be performing at the Armstrong Theater in Torrance. Details can be found on the CalProg site and tickets are on sale now.

Its a busy year for CalProg and we hope you can take the time to come out and support us by seeing some of these wonderful shows!

Sincerely,

Jim "PapaJ Harrel at CalProg

Do not waste time blocking your ears.
Do not waste time seeking a "sound proofed" shelter.
Try to get as far away from the sonic source as possible

Enjoy

The very first album I bought was Warrior on the Edge of Time grin

Think Floyd were excellent last night, although a power/equipment failure meant we lost about 20 minutes, which included the second half of Echoes, One Of These Days and Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun. shocked The venue was interesting - at the front was a traditional looking church spire, but inside it was very much a new age looking church. grin In terms of sound, it was possibly the best I've ever heard for any tribute band. cool And to cap it all, despite it being a church venue, they were serving beer on the premises! smiley

Glad you enjoyed them, Nige!

Huntingdon Hall in Worcester is an old church (deconsecrated, I think). Watching The Watch playing there at the altar that was, while holding a pint, was quite surreal yet seemed totally appropriate since I've always worshipped Genesis!

Didn't bother going to Counterfeit Stones last night as I was too knackered after swimming. Wish I'd have gone though; it might have helped me sleep through all the noise from the inconsiderate chavs opposite, which went on 'til 4.45 this morning!

Going to see It Bites tonight at the Robin although I'm totally knackered but I'm hoping to get a decent night's sleep afterwards!

Enjoy the show Lesley. The only thing I've ever heard by It Bites is Calling All The Heroes. embarassed And I have to say that I can't stand that track, but I'm guessing that it's non-typical.

Someone in the crowd shouted out for that song to which John Beck(keyboardist) suggested that the bloke went forth to multiply grin

Lesley's probably already left so I think it'll be safe to say that they played all of the Map Of The past cd and only one song from the Francis Dunnery days

They were fantastic! Loved Map of the Past! Thanks to Busby of the Busby Babes giving me the wonderful CD as a late birthday prezzie a few weeks ago, I knew all of the tracks, which made the gig even better!

Nice to see Steph, Dave and Glen there too and other people I knew! What a night! SO glad I went!

Next gig, Vincent Flatts at the Hop Pole, Bromsgrove, Thursday followed by Blue Onyx, a Moody Blues tribute, at the Robin on Friday. smiley
