Fair enough, and glad you didn't take offense.

The way the cost of concert tix are rising, I just have a hard time justifying spending the $ most tribute bands are asking. Much rather go see original bands, even if it means seeing fewer shows per year.

I do however have no problem going to a bar or club, paying a small cover fee to enter, and seeing a good tribute band. This is more how it was back in the day for me. Never really considered it a "going to a gig".

The last two tribute bands I've seen--The Musical Box and The Machine--played to larger crowds than many of the last few original artists I've seen--Paula Cole, Suzanne Vega, STEVE HACKETT!! shocked

I don't doubt that, but my point is I just don't consider it the same as going to a "gig" or "concert".

Just my opinion, and totally respect the work the tribute bands do, the people who go, and enjoy them.

Most bands/artists currently playing theatres/arenas/stadia started out playing in pubs and clubs. Does that mean their early shows were not gigs then? wink

No. Of course not, but that brings me once again back to my point of tribute bands vs. original bands, and how I don't consider them the same.

If I go see a cover band, it's more like a night at the movies,( only with live music instead of a flic) or a night hanging with my friends at a bar. Nowhere near the same feeling of excitement or anticipation I get when I know I'm going to a concert. Whether it be in a Club, theatre, arena, or stadium to see an original band.

As you said earlier...to each their own, and just giving my thoughts. Certainly not putting down tribute bands or the people who go see them. I just don't put going to see them in the same category as going to an original band's gig/concert.

Great band! cool There was plenty of early Roxy, a generous helping of later Roxy and a fair sprinkling of solo Ferry. The lead singer was Bryan Ferry! grin
