Not a great album like Girlfriend, but still a very good album. I particularly love Get Older. Sick of Myself is fun and messy too.

I have lost track of him in the past decade. Anything worthwhile that he has done that is worth investigating?

Funny thing,

I only really started listening to him when 100% Fun was released, and this particular song has always been a particular favorite. And apart from Girlfriend, I am oddly not familiar with his earlier albums. (I need to do something about that. undecided )

Since then I've always looked forward to anything new from him, and pretty much like all of his output. If I was to choose something off the top of my head, I'd say his latest solo work, Modern Art, is quite good and worth a listen. I'm also a huge fan of the Under The Covers series with Susanna Hoffs. Vol. 2 is great, IMO, and it has a killer version of the Yes number, I've Seen All Good People. But others hate it, so...

Anyway, I can't say I know what it is about Sweet that you like, but I just think he can create some very inventive melodies that seem to connect with me. Hope to catch him live one day.

I like his strong melodies and many of his best songs have kind of desperate, plaintive quality in the lyrics. He also gets some kick-ass musicians to play with him, particularly on guitar. Girlfriend was where I found all of this to come together most consistently. Altered Beast has some good moments but also some skippable tracks.

Live he is pretty solid, though I haven't seen him in a long while. I missed the Girlfriend tour he did a couple of years ago.

I'll look up some of the stuff you mention to give it a listen. I did hear his version of I've Seen All Good People with Susanna Hoffs and thought it was a pretty decent, heartfelt cover.
