Avoiding the all-powerful singles, here's a Peter Gabriel "Best Of" album tracks ranging from PG1-UP but excluding any tracks which featured on 16 Golden Greats.

1. This Is The Picture (Excellent Birds)
2. No Self Control
3. Come To Talk To Me
4. White Shadow
5. Moribund The Burgermeister
6. Across The River [Live]
7. I Go Swimming [Live]
8. Humdrum
9. Slow Marimbas
10. Intruder
11. More Than This
12. Kiss Of Life
13. Washing Of The Water
14. The Rhythm Of The Heat
15. In Doubt
16. A Different Drum
17. In Your Eyes

Nice list! I would probably replace a few of those with "Mother of Violence," "Wallflower," "Secret World," and "Sky Blue," but otherwise I like it. cool

It's odd that "In Your Eyes" is not included in the 16 Golden Greats... It's arguably his biggest hit.

Huh? I've always thought his biggest hit was Sledgehammer. In fact, it was the first song I ever heard by a member of Genesis, first hearing it in the 90s when I was about 5, several years before discovering Genesis. At the time I thought Peter Gabriel was just some pop singer. grin

Thanks. Secret World and Sky Blue were contenders for my list for a while, but due to my self imposed rules something had to give. smiley

In Your Eyes was never released here in the UK as a single and you don't hear much about the film it was featured in so I dare say not many here have heard of it if they don't have either So or Secret World Live (I could be wrong of course).

As for 16 Golden Greats, if you put In Your Eyes on there in place of Mercy Street it could be argued the five strongest So tracks would then all have been featured. Maybe Peter wanted to hold something back as a reward for the casual listeners who then out to buy So.

The Gods' Honest Truth.... I specifically inserted the word "arguably" because I knew that YOU, NoSon, would otherwise come back with "What about 'Sledgehammer'?" No offense, but you've recently been more and more pedantic and unnecessarily literal. Just lighten up, Francis.

By the way, song titles should be in quotes, album titles in italics. (See, pedantry can be okay if it's instructive.) smiley

You're right - I've been way too pedantic recently. In fact, I've been a real sourpuss grump for the last few weeks. sad I apologise. I've been watching way too much A Dose Of Buckley. grin

An attempt at those Norwegian one-hit-wonders in USA but more successful everywhere else group: a-ha.

1. I've Been Losing You
2. Train Of Thought (7" version)
3. Move To Memphis
4. Sycamore Leaves
5. Scoundrel Days
6. The Swing Of Things
7. Summer Moved On
8. Minor Earth Major Sky
9. Manhattan Skyline (album version)
10. Under The Makeup
11. Cold As Stone (7" version)
12. Hunting High & Low (7" version)
13. Analogue
14. Butterfly, Butterfly (The Last Hurrah)
15. The Sun Always Shines On TV
16. Cry Wolf
17. The Living Daylights (film version)
18. Take On Me

All version choices bar one purposely selected because they are the superior versions. However, Cold As Stone was purely for timing purposes to keep within 80mins. Much prefer the album version which runs almost another 4mins longer.

Eagles

These aren't necessarily my favourite tracks. I had to be ruthless & therefore could not include anything not sung by the late Glenn Frey or by Don Henley, or by the two of them together. I tried to put them in a coherent listening order rather than in chronological or preference order.

1. Take It Easy
2. Witchy Woman
3. Already Gone
4. Heartache Tonight
5. One Of These Nights
6. Peaceful Easy Feeling
7. Tequila Sunrise
8. Waiting In The Weeds
9. Doolin Dalton
10. Hotel California
11. King Of Hollywood
12. Lyin' Eyes
13. Long Road Out Of Eden
14. Life In The Fast Lane
15. New Kid In Town
16. Get Over It

If I could include a bonus (this goes for 81 minutes) it would be Glenn Frey's farewell song, It's Your World Now.

Beautiful!! Great choices.

I'm also a fan of Timothy B. Schmit's vocals, especially on "I Can't Tell You Why" and "Love Will Keep Us Alive."

Great songs, though my all-time favorite Eagles song is "The Last Resort." smiley

Another great one, Dust!

When I was a young single man in the mid 1970s, I would quite often spin the Hotel California album before going to bed. The Last Resort, being the last song on the album, set the perfect mood to end the day.

I have to be in the mood for The Last Resort & while I do like I Can't Tell You Why, Love Will Keep Us Alive is one of my least favourite Eagles songs. Thanks for the comments. I have enjoyed reading everyone else's playlists & suspect I may spend a lot of time in this thread.
