« Thread started on: Mar 1st, 2014, 09:18am »

Make a best tracks compilation for your favorite bands!

Rules:
1. Limit yourself to one band per album. Related solo artists are OK, but limit yourself.
2. You must stay within 80 minutes and 20 tracks, as if you were making a CD.
3. All songs must be on an album, so people will be able to recreate your list without digging out an old 45 or downloading a bootleg. (A compilation/box set counts as an album, as does an official live album.)

Tips:
- While the track limit is based on officially released CD's, your track list doesn't have to be. All you hipsters, go nuts!

- While they are not explicitly banned, I ask you to keep Genesis lists a low priority. We have enough arguments in the other areas of the forum, no need for it here!

A thread after my own heart! Let me first say that I am a Playlist Snob. It can't just be a compilation of songs... the structure is very important to me, as a mini-setlist that an artist may put together for a concert. The opening and closing tracks are extremely critical, and the songs must flow logically in tempo and style, sometimes segueing with similarity and other times with stark contrast.

That said, last Summer I embarked on a personal exploration of Rush, and though I still lack a couple of albums, here is the CD I burned afterward:

Subdivisions
Limelight
Spindrift
The Trees
Xanadu
Chemistry
The Main Monkey Business
Red Barchetta
La Villa Strangiato
Bravest Face
New World Man
Roll the Bones
Jacob's Ladder

cool

"Ticking" is a fantastic song, despite the lyric, "You danced in death like a marionette on the vengeance of the law." Almost as silly as "Sitting like a princess perched in her electric chair."

cheesy
