I love the new Arena album, probably helped by the fact that Night Of The Demon was - and is - one of my favourite horror films from my youth. cool

Le Orme is my favourite of the Italian prog bands I've heard. I've got all their 70s albums, some are obviously better than others but I enjoy them all.

Being one of the so-called Big 3, Banco del Mutuo Soccorso naturally drew my attention when I was exploring the world of Italian prog. I've only listened to their music online, just sampling it. It's been a while but I think there was something about the singer's voice that turned me off.
Despite my reluctance, I've actually thought of giving them a chance, maybe picking up Darwin or the debut, and seeing how I feel listening to it in the car or on the stereo.

A very interesting post Witchwood; I know you like Le Orme, judging by your previously posted playlists. I find their music very nice indeed with the best albums being Felona E Sorona (also the English sung version, although I prefer their mother tongue version), Uomo Di Pezza, Collage and Contrappunti.....probably in that order of greatness.

But for me Banco are particularly impressive with a hugely listenable catalogue of studio and live albums. All of the albums from the 1970s are good, but the first 3 albums (s/t, Darwin! and Lo Sono nato Libero) are 5 star efforts. The fourth album is stunning too (Banco) whereby the band took some of the songs from albums 1 and 3 and sung them in English whilst at the same time adding one new song. Banco play some stunning music with the brothers Nocenzi playing masterful keyboards. These 4 albums are then followed by Garofano Rosso which, to be honest, is almost if not equally impressive.
The singer Francesco Di Giacomo (sadly RIP) has a very nice voice for me, so please persevere with him! Then the next album the band did an all instrumental set (...Di Terra) and it is amazing. Just as you think the music doesn't get any better then two live albums are must haves (No Palco from 2003 and Seguendo Le Tracce from 2005). What an incredible journey of music and I would love to see them live. Perhaps I will make the trip to Italy.

I am so impressed with Banco, perhaps even more-so than PFM, who I love dearly, probably because they have a greater consistency with their music. Some of the 80s albums are a bit weaker, but this doesn't put me off the band whatsoever!

Enjoy the albums Witchwood. I have just ordered some rated DVDs to sample the live atmosphere as best as is possible without seeing the band live. I am certainly going to enjoy them!
