Was it you or was it me? Or was it he or she?

As strange as it may seem, it definitely has elements of what I would call prog shocked. Although they aren't super-talented musicians, and they don't go for the whole complicated chord stuff, the album has a very strong concept (OK, nuclear warfare isn't terribly original but I think it's done really well) and the pieces are very linked and some have quite an avant-garde feel to them. They have lots of very atmospheric interludes between the main songs, and a very nice edit of a Martin Luther King Jr speech in the song "Wisdom, Justice and Love". I might go as far as to say that they've gone slightly Floydish shocked

I would at least say that it's definitely an album album, rather than a songs album. And none of that annoying "me me me" "the world hates me" stuff that clutters the rest of their albums cool The lyrics are in fact, for the main part, much better, if you can listen to them rap (Oh yes I didn't mention that there was some imo tasteful (shocked) rap in there) such things as "Try to catch up mother#!*&er!" or "I'm not a robot, I'm not a monkey, I will not dance even if the beat's funky". I could listen to the former all day...

So I would rank this new incarnation of Linking Park right up there with the best on my iPod, but others will of course disagree.

And yes, my other 4 bands have all been just slightly proggy this last month grin (I'm actually just discovering Rush and Yes you see)

That and Check Your Head are the best things they ever did, IMO.

Not a huge, huge fan of Check Your Head actually. I'd say Paul's B is about 80 notches above their other stuff. Ill Communication is a distant second and then the other stuff is mostly interchangeable to me. Licensed to Ill is great for frat and beer parties where everyone's IQ collectively drops 100 points but just "ok" for sober, normal day-to-day listening.

Wow, gotta give those guys credit for trying. I always thought their stuff was at least halfway decent for a "nu metal" band, and it's nice to hear of musicians at least attempt a more ambitious project like that these days.

I've been discovering The Beatles since then, so I've mainly been listening to them, with the inevitable contribution of my two favourite bands, Genesis and Pink Floyd and the odd spin of A Thousand Suns (that Linkin Park album). If I had to give a fifth artist, it would probably be Dream Theater.

Seeing as I'm still discovering (good) music, I don't really listen to a wide range of artists yet, as I can easily be satisfied by getting to know a few new albums.

Hopefully there'll be a brand new five after christmas!
