Didn't realise it was almost two months since I last updated this. Here's my current top five most played bands (in no particular order):

Opeth
Strawbs
Camel
Arena
Fleetwood Mac
(surprisingly)

Well, I've got a lads night coming up so have been listening to the selected artists for the evening in order to pick a top 3.

So, I've been listening to:

John Cougar-Mellencamp
The Shins
Nik Kershaw
Double Albums

Plus, my friend Roger Henderson (www.myspace.com/rogerlhenderson) has just finished an album called "Taurus The Bull" and has sent me an advanced pressing to see what I think. So I've been listening to that a lot.

On the subject of double-albums, here are my top three tracks:

1) Genesis – The Chamber of 32 Doors from “The Lamb”

2) The Flower Kings – The Man Who Walked With Kings from “Stardust We Are” (don’t worry – I picked a short one!)

3) ELO - Standin’ In The Rain from “Out Of The Blue” (first song at the first gig I ever went to)

Can't say I've ever heard of the Shins, to be honest. As for John Cougar-Mellencamp - a mate of mine was well into him back in the eighties. He played me some and I quite liked it.

What's your mates album like? I mean, what genre, if any?

I hadn't either to be honest but the host (of the lads night) gets to choose a band or artist and Kev has chosen The Shins.

What happens is that he then sends everyone a CD by the band and we all listen to it and choose the best three tracks and these are all put together in a play-list that accompanies our cards game.

It's a great way of hearing new music.

He's pretty straight-forward American rock, a bit like Tom Petty, but that's good every now and again.

We all went to see him at Hammy Odeon in the late 80s and it was fantastic - loads of energy.

Imagine an English James Taylor wink

Roger's been in bands and writing music for years but has always balanced that with a full time career. He's now unfortunately on extended sick leave which has given him a bit of space to persue his music interests.

Well known West-End singer Steve Balsamo (also lead singer in The Storys) has sung one of Roger's compositions called "Well of Souls". This has also been put forward to the likes of Robbie Williams and Will Young as possible songs for their albums.

Here's Steve Balsamo singing that song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAB4q2C-Mxg

Nice wink
