When I was at university I spent most of my money on alcohol and albums (vinyl LPs). smiley Oh, and whilst I don't think that The Incident is Porcupine Tree's best album, it's still bl**dy good, so my advice is buy it now at that price. smiley

Jethro Tull - Nightcap

Been playing a lot of Tull last few weeks, and casually mentioned to family that Tull's Christmas Album would be nice to find under the tree.
If it doesn't arrive that way, I'll order it myself in the new year.

I got the George Harrison documentary 'Living In The Material World' on DVD as a Christmas present for my elder sister; having watched the BBC-4 edit, I've since been looking for his songs on YouTube as well as the 'Pirate Bob' sketch from Rutland Weekend Television!

'Crackerbox Palace' has a good promo shot on his home grounds, with Neil Innes portraying a nanny pushing a pram; I swear George being in said pram and pushing the pram hood back was an influence on the 'Every Sperm Is Sacred' routine in Monty Python's 'Meaning Of Life'!

I saw this CD on eBay and read much information online which indicated that the music has elements of King Crimson and early Genesis.

I have to say that there is a lot of outstanding music here, as well as--in my opinion--some sketchy, annoyingly pretentious stuff. Not unusual for a lesser-known Prog band, but my problem is that most of the tracks include both! Why is it necessary to take a beautifully-crafted song and suddenly at the three-minute mark throw in 30 seconds of cacophonous noise? Stop it. Without the experimental silliness, this could be one of the best albums I've discovered in ages. But I'll keep listening... maybe the annoying elements will become more tolerable to me.

Just ordered

Paul Cusick 'P'Dice'

This new album from Paul has Gavin Harrison guest starring plus a few other prog stalwarts.

For those who have not heard Paul's debut 'Focal Point' well, you are missing a gem. It is a superb debut with shades of Porcupine Tree (the more pop rock side) on a number of tracks.

I stupidly purchased The Incident album from iTunes one day before I recieved it for free from Ned. rolleyes

laugh laugh laugh

Anyway, my Mum has recently purchased a new album called In the Threshold of a Dream by the Moody Blues, and it's a Christmas present for Dad. I'm looking forward to listening to it together because I love the Moody Blues very much. Come to think of it, they were the first prog band I ever got into, back in 2005-ish. smiley
