Yes, but I meant Tarkus.

How did you like Moonmadness?

I thought it was brilliant, as usual. Progressive rock is a universe of infinite possibilities, and Moonmadness was a sheer and utter delight. Pure 10/10 perfection, one of my newest favourites.

I did buy Tarkus, and I'm going to listen to it tonight. Unfortunately, because Photobucket has gone completely AWOL for me (all the graphics are messed up) the website is currently unusuble, so I can't upload a picture of the album cover.

Beach Boys - Smile (deluxe 5 CD version) Definitive version of this long lost album and much like the Beatles Anthology where you have the main tracks plus all the demos, outtakes and different versions etc.

Essential to anyone who loves the Beach Boys.

I saw ELP perform Tarkus in its entirety in 1974. It was my second concert (first being Steely Dan with headliner Bread in 1973).

ELP were so amazing I took my 13-year-old brother to see them the next night. They were touring for the Brain Salad Surgery album, but the Tarkus segment of the show was by far the most impressive. Much of BSS was very good as well; ie, Jerusalem and Toccata. I believe tickets were a mere $6.00 US for a 3-hour performance shocked

Coincidentally, I just finished watching the 2-1/2 hour Smile documentary on television this morning. Brian Wilson was going through a series of ups and downs in his life during the recording of this album. Smile was released 37 years after it was recorded. It was scrapped back in 1967 as the other Beach Boys didn't like what Brian had composed. He was under pressure from the record label to release it. He told them this was his greatest undertaking and could take up to a year, but they told him that was too long. Brian was heavy into LSD and other major drugs by this point and was getting very paranoid. He actually thought during the recording of "Fire," from the instrumental "Elements", that an actual fire down the street from the recording studio was caused by his recording of the song. The song was written during his second LSD trip.

Consider this in your next package wink I also seem to recall that this was the album that eventually led to Brian's breakdown as he apparently thought this was on par with the very best of the Beatles and then he heard St Pepper and believed that he could not compete anymore or deliver anything as good as that album. Not sure how much of that is true or it was just the drugs (his drugs and not mine you understand grin)

Yes, Brian mentions in the documentary that he was driving through L.A. in 1967 and heard a Beatles song on the radio. He was so captivated by the song that he couldn't drive and had to pull over. He had never heard anything like it before. I believe it may have been the song "Strawberry Fields Forever" from the Magical Mystery Tour album, as this was the song they were playing during the segment, and this was released the same year as Sgt. Pepper's (1967).

Here and Now - Give and Take

An album I used to have on vinyl many moons ago, and not heard for years!

An off shoot of Planet Gong, and remember seeing them at the Stonehenge Festival in the early 80's (Just) wink
