Interesting selection Kendra. Can't say that I'm familiar with any of those titles.

They are actually all related...at least one member of the other five recordings were in Cap'n Jazz, who were actually pretty shortlived. It's all stuff that I've gotten exposure to via my last.fm account...I'd say the majority of the new-to-me music that I've acquired in the last couple years has been as a result of using that site.

Tim Kinsella seems to be a familiar name, so I checked it out and discovered the connections.

The bulk of his work has probably been with Joan of Arc, who have some really good stuff, and then some not-so-good stuff...it's more of a collective than an actual band, so that manifests itself in a LOT of variation within their catalog. One version of Joan of Arc records as Make Believe, and I like most of what they've done. A lot of it's "difficult" to get into, but I find it ultimately rewarding as a listener. Tim's brother Mike records as "Owen," and has released a lot of nice music, including a 7" on this past Record Store Day.

The Roches - The Roches

(I ordered this the other day. I don't remember what spurred me to look into them, but I was very intrigued by the snippets I heard online.)

I always get excited when a new Sloan album is released!

also:

Red on White by Frank Smith, who are apparently some kind of alt-country collective; it looked interesting and was only 97 cents, so I figured I'd check it out!

I think that The Winner Takes It All is one of the greatest pop songs of all time.
