I found it a tad Reggatta de Bland...perhaps it needs another listen.

I know a lot of people who prefer the more polished pop sounds of Synchronicity over the sparse rawness of Regatta, but I don't think I've heard it called "bland." Sure, there a couple of tracks that seem like one simple idea drawn-out over four minutes, but otherwise... Yowza!

The next time you listen, pay attention to the musicianship. I mean damn, it's only a guitar, a bass, and a drumset. Amazing! smiley

Apparently Ian Anderson is a guest on the album. Can't wait to hear it in it's entirety smiley

First of all, if they had it, I would've bought "Synchronicity" or "Zenyatta Mondatta" instead, probably.
Also, I was working while listening, so this may be to blame, but that's almost always how I listen to music in these busy times. I don't dislike it and I'll give it another listen, but the only tracks that I really remember are "Message in a Bottle" and the odd "On Any Other Day."
Hopefully a more rewarding second listen.

Fair enough! No shame if you don't enjoy it though. I'm big into late '70s/early '80s New Wave--Police, Elvis Costello, Joe Jackson, Talking Heads--which I know are not everyone's cup of tea here. I've run into some die-hard prog-people who hate that stuff. grin

I like Talking Heads to a degree. I have Sand in the Vaseline which is good, and very recently Remain in Light, which I thought was good (not earth-shattering) but which I've also only had the opporitunity to listen to once.

Tormato is-a in the post! Let's see what NoSonOfVine sees in it.

And Talking Heads are really a band to grow on you. The first time I listened to Fear of Music, I hated it passionately except Life During Wartime and Paper. It's a great album, though. Same experience with Remain in Light.

Edit: NoSonOfVine, you confuse me with wordplay

My fave TH album - never really was a big fan of this band. The album conjures up some fond memories of the 70s.
