He was indeed a fine actor, and North by Northwest, arguably one of the finest films ever, is certainly enhanced by his presence.

I met him in 1982, at an outside broadcast our hospital radio did at the Groves in Chester, as a fundraiser for the victims of the King's Cross barracks bombing. James was in town to do a documentary on Socrates for S4C. One of our members persuaded him to come along for an interview. He was early, and we weren't ready, but we winged it. He was afraid of microphones, and wouldn't let us hold one near him. The interviewer had a loud voice, and so it was a bit of a nightmare to do, but I managed, (I was sound engineer). Still have the recording on cassette somewhere.

"Yes, one" said the genie.
"Simple! I'll have the musical talent of Steve Hackett" I replied!

I wonder if a fear of microphones is known as Microphobia? Or would that be a fear of tiny things? grin

Now playing:

I've made this statement before, but I feel the need to reiterate - this band really should have done a better job of diversifying their sound. I'm half way through this and so much of it is just too similar to have much effect. I think, for me, Threshold might be a failed band. A band I've tried to immerse myself in (some of their songs are strong) but there's just not enough there to make me want to listen to them again after I finish them. undecided The riffs aren't that creative, the lyrics of the songs are mostly forgettable, the vocals aren't anything special... I think this band is just too so-so for me. I'll keep going with them for now, but at the moment I can't see me still listening to them years into the future, unlike so many of the other bands I've been exploring recently. Sorry, guys. sad
