Deep Blue Something Home

It has been around 20 years, since I last heard this album. I bought it, because I loved the single "Breakfast at Tiffany`s", but was deeply disappointed by the rest of the album. My wife pulled it out of the cd shelf at random and put it on. I listened to it around 3 times in a row and still think, that it is one of the poorest albums in my collection. The musical style is something between R.E.M. and Six Pence None The Richer, two bands, I love quite a bit, but the performance of the music on this album is really a mess. Some of the songs have some potential in them, but the performance is just too bad. These guys simply are a weak band. I have read on wikipedia, that they had produced a cassette album before and sued their record company, for re - releasing it, as they thought, it was too bad for an official release. How incredibly bad this cassette album must be. I really don`t want to know....

tongue

We may have conferred on this before. Even though I got it for a few bucks on eBay, listening to it for the first time may have been the most disappointing musical experience I've ever had. Until then, I had never ever considered throwing a CD right in the trash, but this one made me think twice. smiley

While away on holiday last week, I picked up an old Joe Satriani cd for 1 in a charity shop! Listening to it now for the first time in years:

Joe Satriani - Engines Of Creation

Good album! wink

Giving this a second listen. It pains me to say that I'm not enjoying this album much. shocked sad I mean, their third album is a masterpiece to me, so I never expected them to top it... but this album just isn't clicking with me. There are a few nice sounds and bits in it, but it's got some really ugly and confused sections, most of the lyrics don't make any sense (and therefore don't resonate with me like the lyrics of their third album), and it comes across as cold and weird rather than enchanting or though-provoking.

The fourth Maccabees album was one of my most anticipated albums ever. I was hoping that it would be a worthy follow-up, but right now, it's just mediocre, and it's a big disappointment coming after their impeccable third album. sad

To be fair, Babe isn't the worst ballad I've ever heard, but I just prefer their rockier, proggier stuff.

Still in Styx mood, I'm now listening to: Pieces Of Eight. I remember four or five songs off this. (I've got the twelve inch single of Blue Collar Man too)

I've always been partial to the Equinox album, before they made it big. Those songs all rock, especially Suite Madame Blue and Born For Adventure.
