Add those ones to the list:

Saab
Seat
Suzuki
Daihatsu
Dacia
Chevrolet

I was surprised to see Chevrolets have become common here. You never saw them when I was a kid.

Chevrolet

The Chevrolet's you see in Europe are really made by Daewoo in South Korea, at least their old factories, Daewoo went bust after GM stopped using them to make Vauxhall/Opel cars for the Asia pacific market back in the 90's. GM bought them and now they are GM Korea. The Chevrolet brand has recently been dropped in the UK and they are selling cars badged as Vauxhall in the UK, the Mokka being one that is also sold as an Opel, another being the Viva, an old name from the 60/70's, don't know if Opel do it too.

I don't know if the recent sale of GM Europe to PSA includes GM Korea. If not, maybe GM have wrong footed PSA and will still be able to sell cars in Europe! wink

What do you call a Skoda convertible?
A skip! (A dumpster in the US, I think?)

Why do skoda's have heated rear windows?
To keep your hands warm while pushing them!

Never heard of Wartburg.

Lada and Skoda used to be seen as being on the same level of cr*pness. Skoda, however, reinvented themselves and are now respected, with some of their models winning "Car of the Year" accolades in UK car magazines.

I drive a Vauxhall, really commonplace here. As are Fords and all the German, French, Japanese and Korean makes already mentioned in the thread.

Wartburg were an east German brand who used two stroke engines. The way they work required the engine oil to be added to the fuel mix, hence they are very polluting, and were thus so bad they failed to meet Western Europe emission laws introduced in about 1974. Which is pretty bad!

Did somebody mention cars? cheesy

I'm eating humble pie as I just bought a small SUV after saying I'd never own one, the only people who drive them are planet hogs, etc.

Here it is, my 60th birthday present to myself!

Seriously? Surely no one who had experience of an original Vauxhall Viva would think reviving that name was a good sales pitch huh

Huge, gold, unwieldy & always breaking down. Definitely does not invoke the right kind of nostalgia!

A Trabant. This one even got an English number plate. Maybe it is Bono`s from the time of the Achtung Baby Sessions.

My sister in law, who grew up in East Germany, told me she once saw eight people come out of a Trabant: two from the front seats, three from the back seats and two from the trunk. grin

My husband drives a Ford Focus & I drive a Renault Clio. Clios aren't seen that often in Australia - when we were in the UK in 2010 they were everywhere.

Most of the cars around here are (Australian) Holdens or Fords, or the usual Japanese & German cars. It's exciting to see a real luxury car - last week hubby saw an Aston Martin parked in a disabled space at a shopping centre. The most exotic thing I ever saw in Sydney city centre was a Maybach.
