I'll just say that I've seen a lot of people get accused of fitting descriptions that they really don't.

About the popular vote, most of you act as if New York and California all vote blue (perhaps you have this idea because of the electoral college system?). There are many republicans in these states. I propose to you an alternate scenario: what if you are a democrat in Texas or a republican in New York? Do you think their voice is heard? Beside from representatives, absolutely not.

New York and California don't "all" vote blue (I have relatives that are New York Republicans), but the states inevitably vote that way.

The question about people's voices getting heard is, how does that work? Aren't those whose candidate wins the only ones really being "heard?" Either way, would straight popular vote let more people be "heard" than the current system? I doubt it.

There are reasons U.S. elections use the Electoral College instead of popular vote. Here's something I heard that kind of sums it up: If the elections were decided by simple popular vote, California and New York alone would determine the outcome and no other state would actually have a voice.

Ahh, but that's if you assume everyone votes. Less than half did. Combine that with this system above, you get a result like this. Perhaps this is a good time to consider voting compulsory. Remember compulsory doesn't mean voting for Trump or Clinton, it just means voting

In fact I would like to know how many of those protesting actually bothered to vote because you know what? If you didn't bother then you don't get the right to protest against the decision that the people voted

"The states inevitably vote that way"? Whaaaahuh? Could you please elaborate? In the electoral college yes, but in popular vote I don't understand.

Yes, that is true. The ones who win are the ones who are ultimately heard, that is basically what democracy is by definition. But while we're on the subject, it's not about how some people are heard more than others, it's about ALL people being heard EQUALLY.

You're going to need an awfully big brick to do that...

After everything he's done in the past week, I now support the protests.

Trump is an absolute disgrace.

Good to see British muslim celebrities and others for that matter able to travel to the US, according to our politicians, provided they hold a British passport.

I'm getting a little teed off about the protests, frankly, when a lot of unelected "leaders" (aka murderers/exploiters) such as Mugabe and Assad carry on without a word of dissent from these "jump on the bandwagon" protesters.

Trump was elected - live with it, I've had to live under leaders I would never have chosen, it's called democracy, which seems to be becoming a rather selective concept in the minds of some, happy when it goes their way, moaners when it doesn't!

It's also your democratic right to protest something you believe is wrong especially if it goes against what you believe to be racist and constitutional laws of the land

Except what he has done is utterly tyrannical. Banning the citizens from seven countries from entering the U.S. contradicts what the country is supposed to be: A nation of immigrants where everyone from every background is welcome. Furthermore, shutting out the people of these countries only helps militant groups radicalise and grow in numbers. This order is based around fear, distrust and paranoia, which is what makes terrorists thrive. It's absolutely disgraceful and Trump deserves to be shamed and derided from every angle for tarnishing the suffering reputation of the United States.
