The big flagship BBC/ITV drama productions seem to get 8 episodes at most (e.g. Broadchurch, Poldark, Downton Abbey, Victoria). Most others get fewer. I guess the US TV companies have more money to spend making them!

There's also the fact that US stations consider a season 17 weeks, so three seasons plus Christmas week, whereas UK is 4 x 13 weeks. Not sure where the 8 week thing has come from.

I'm not familiar with any of those except Downton Abbey. Are the rest one off seasons or do they return for more than one season?

Broadchurch (fictional modern detective drama) had 2 series, another one is planned; Poldark (fictional 18th-century Cornish tin-mining(!) saga) starts its second series soon; Victoria has just started its first series with the real Queen Victoriaís accession in 1837, but since she reigned until 1901 thereís potential for plenty more series if itís a hit! laugh

I think maybe we're getting our wires crossed somewhere. What I was asking was if those series run only one year and they're done, like a mini series here or do they come back again the next year or air another season the same year?

Some shows here air twice (2 seasons) in one year but ones like Ray Donovan, Breaking Bad, Etc just have their usual 10 week run,( one season) per year. That's what I find frustrating. I love the shows, it's the waiting that's the hard part. If these great shows aired twice a year it wouldn't be near as bad to me. It sounds like some of your shows air two seasons a year or am I mistaken in that?

Started watching game of Thrones...I'm on episode 6 and already hooked.

Did anybody sit down to watch Ray Donovan last week only to realize it wasn't on that night? angry

Looking forward to tonight though! #lenagirlcrush

Haha, nope. When I saw your post about looking forward to watching it last week I just assumed you had an episode DVR'd and we're going to get caught up. grin

I'll be watching football but my DVR is set!

Oh and I've got a bit of a crush on Lena too, I mean how could I not? wink

I don't have a crush on her but I wish Lena and Avi were in it more, 2 of the more interesting characters, imho.

OH yeah!! A very much deserved Emmy win for Tatiana Maslany! 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻

I thought the nomination was just a nice little nod, thanks for coming again type gesture and never thought they'd give her the win. So glad to be wrong as this woman is by far the best lead actress on TV, imo.
