So, watched the last episode of Endeavour last night. Probably the best of the 4 this series, and I didn't spot any cultural references, unless perhaps the Krays were alluded to.

Lots of period vehicles in this one though, a boon for old time car fans, there was a nice, very rare even then, Ford Anglia estate, and the van bringing money into the bank was a Bedford CA, very typical of the era.

BUT the biggest gaffe I've ever seen in this programme involved a car. The gang stole a getaway car, an E-reg Rover P6 3500. Good choice, and a lovely car, brings back memories as someone I knew let me have a drive of his the night I passed my test back in 1976. Sadly, E suffix plates date the car as Jan-Jul 1967, (E-suffix was the year they switched from calendar years, A = 1963 and so on, to the staggered year that became the norm, F = Aug 67-Jul 68 etc.) but the Rover 3500 didn't go on sale until spring 1968. shocked

Car geek alert! grin

There must have been some references to gangster movies in there, but it’s not a genre I know much about. The only cultural reference I noticed was Joan Thursday’s acting out “She’s Leaving Home”, from the Sgt Pepper album which was released in the summer of 1967 when that episode was set - too early for the Rover, alas .... wink

What season is that in now?

I watched the last half of season two and quite enjoyed it, very quaint. Then went back to start from the beginning and it got really repetitive. Must be better now if its still going.

Saw that too. I'm guessing they are about to tackle the Thalidomide issue.

Don't get me started on Life on Mars or Ashes to Ashes, both lead cars were wrong, but in that case it may have been deliberate, for as we now know, it wasn't really 1973/1980's, it was a form of purgatory. wink

Not sure where it's up to, to be honest, as I've never really watched it till lately. Just checked and it's series 5, last night was episode 4. wink

Just finished watching a film called Secret Window with Johnny Depp in it. Not sure if I liked it or not. It was ok but nothing special.

I was really psyched when I heard about this show... an HBO series about the record business in New York City in the early 1970s, produced by Scorcese and with a rock background and portrayals of young Iggy Pop and Lou Reed and Robert Plant. What's not to like?

It's terrible. I made it through the first 90 minutes of the two-hour pilot, then I just turned it off, bored to tears. Apart from a 20-second snippet of "All the Young Dudes" being played on someone's radio, there was not a single interesting, creative, or original moment. Gives me a good opportunity to use two of my favorite critical terms... "tepid" and "pedestrian." Don't bother with it.

Last night, Guitar Wars. With Steve Hackett, Nuno Bettencort, Pat Mastelotto, John Paul Jones and Roger King on stage, what's not to like? grin

Today, it was Genesis Revisited - Live at Hammersmith.

My all time favorite movie....Doctor Zhivago on TCM.

A great month to be a movie fan as TCM is running their annual 31Days of Oscars, with all the great Oscar winning movies airing round the clock all month. Not just Best Picture but if it won any Oscar, chances are it'll be on at some point this month. cool
