I sense this Sunday's show will have a Kate Bush theme! The trailer was on while I was at my mum's this evening. The last words spoken by characters in the trailer were: "It's in the trees! It's coming!"

I laughed so much I nearly fell out of my chair. They get more brazen by the episode.

And yet, having now watched the episode, the line never turns up in it? An outtake, used as promo material.

On Downton Abbey the Grantham family were visited by Neville Chamberlain, Minister of Health in 1925. At one point an argument broke out, and a character said to him, "Minister, I would have thought you'd enjoy a good fight." Chamberlain said, "No, I don't actually."

I thought that was very clever. smiley

Should that have SPOILER on it. grin

Please explain. I know he became Prime Minister in real life after this, but don't understand that particular line.

This show is clever, so many subtleties. I bet a lot of the Yorkshire references go over your head Dusty, which is too bad as some are brilliant. I love it that Mrs Patmoor has never been 'interfered with' grin

Appeasement. In short and simplified, Chamberlain allowed Hitler to seize big chunks of Europe.

True, I'm sure I'm missing some things.

I'm going to hold off responding to your reply on Facebook... will wait to see if anyone over there gets it. It is very very subtle, and it is unlikely that most people would pickup the reference. Hopefully some of my teacher friends will. smiley

Pretty good, and Tom Hardy does a fine job of portraying 2 different people very well, but slightly spoiled due to Ron sounding like Steve Coogan!

Isn't it frustrating!

I think people don't read anything I post either, then sometimes when I see them in person and they mention something. Makes me nuts! angry

Watching that MADOFF show. Not seen part two yet, only the build up to being discovered.

It helped me understand better what happened, and not badly done IMO. What a crook that guy was!

So, watched the last episode of Endeavour last night. Probably the best of the 4 this series, and I didn't spot any cultural references, unless perhaps the Krays were alluded to.

Lots of period vehicles in this one though, a boon for old time car fans, there was a nice, very rare even then, Ford Anglia estate, and the van bringing money into the bank was a Bedford CA, very typical of the era.

BUT the biggest gaffe I've ever seen in this programme involved a car. The gang stole a getaway car, an E-reg Rover P6 3500. Good choice, and a lovely car, brings back memories as someone I knew let me have a drive of his the night I passed my test back in 1976. Sadly, E suffix plates date the car as Jan-Jul 1967, (E-suffix was the year they switched from calendar years, A = 1963 and so on, to the staggered year that became the norm, F = Aug 67-Jul 68 etc.) but the Rover 3500 didn't go on sale until spring 1968. shocked

My wife currently has Call The Midwife on. Great for those who remember, or are interested in, the 50s. smiley
