The new Sherlock special (twice). Not the best episode thereís been but itís still the best drama on TV, & it knows it! wink

I tried the pilot episode of that show, stopped after an hour and meant to finish it, but never did. Thinking I may revisit.

I never saw Sherlock until series 3 in 2014. Itís one of those incredibly rare shows (like Fawlty Towers & The Young Ones) that you hear people rave about beforehand & you think: surely it canít be that good? But when you finally see it, it is smiley

Correct. I simply admire Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman.

It is excellent, but the Xmas special is a departure, the series cast in a period episode. Haven't seen it yet (in fact rest of household watching in the next room, but I came in halfway through!) but intend to.

It was good but I thought the ending tried to be too clever..

Agreed, & it would be bewildering if you hadnít seen the previous episode. I find Moriarty irritating & too clever by half, & some of the plot twists are just too far-fetched. But they arenít its main strength, itís the interplay & dialogue between the characters: not just Sherlock & John, but the sibling rivalry between Sherlock & Mycroft (especially for anyone who remembers the Frasier & Niles relationship on which itís based), & some of Inspector Lestradeís moments have me in stitches laugh

Well, finally watched it last night. Pretty good, though I've seen better episodes. Had to laugh at Sherlock's exclamation that "It's NEVER Twins!" as I'd watched episode 1 of the new series of Endeavour only an hour before! grin

Yes I noticed that coincidence too grin
Iíve been watching Endeavour since the Genesis-themed episode. I like the way each episode has a main theme & then minor throwaway references e.g. to James Bond. I donít really know the Great Gatsby which was the main theme of the twins one, but the throwaway was Donald Campbell, given the speed record attempt & pointed use of the phrase ďacross the lakeĒ.

Iím watching this weekís episode now & it looks like the throwaway could be the White Album (ďIs this the Savoy truffle?Ē asks Inspector Thursday) grin
