No, you are mistaken in thinking any religion in the US will override our Constitution. One of the mainstays here, has, and will forever be the separation of Church, and State.

No single religion is more important than another, and for the most part they don't factor into the rules governing society. A person who is an Atheist has the exact same rights as the most religious people.

There are many religions practiced here in the States, and there's no way laws can be written to satisfy them all without offending another or denying one of their rights. That is one of the reasons why they are separated from State matters. Prayer has been taken out of the Public schools, and imposing any type of religious doctrine on what a person has to do, should be doing, or is allowed to do is a violation of their civil rights.

So while the 6th Commandment is important to many, the Constitution is important to ALL. The choice to bear arms is still a right, and something they themselves are free to decide if they want to do. Personally, I am a Christian and do my best to follow all the Commandments. I do consider killing to be morally reprehensible, and would never just take another life for no reason. That said, I sure as hell would defend my,and my families life against someone trying to take it away from us. I'm not turning the other cheek or just stand idly by and let someone put their lives in jeopardy, and damn sure not going to apologize for feeling that way. Whether here or to my priest.

At the risk of thread derailing...

Ideally, yes, The Constitution certainly dictates that separation. But I'm sure you are aware of many in U.S., both on the political end and in the media, who are making efforts to blur that line between church and state. In recent years the push from the far Christian Right has been very active to promote the ideology that the United States is a Christian nation, founded on Christian principles, and therefore is bound to be ruled from a Christian perspective. Heck, I remember someone from the old Genesis forum (a favorite of Dusty's as I recall... grin ) who actually proposed, indirectly, that the laws and legislation of the United States should be based upon the Bible and its teachings.

Point is, I think I can understand Alan's point of view regarding the conflict between the 2nd Amendment and the very vocal proclamations from the Christian Right.

So, uh, yeah...that gets on my tits. There, we're all square now. smiley

I understand it too. I just don't agree with it. Yes the Christian Right speaks loudly but that doesn't mean it speaks for us all.

Maybe not, but it seems to me that those with the biggest wallets at election time out number those who don't.
Also because of apathy, those people, the silent majority if you will, will not vote. Over here, it's comulsory to vote...

I wonder what kills more people indiscriminately, whatever age. Guns, or texting/reading your phone and driving.

Actually, doctors kill more than both guns and texting/reading while driving combined.

The fact is that more than 225,000 patients are killed annually by their doctors due to iatrogenic causes. This is 2540% more than deaths caused by guns.

Definition:
IATROGENIC - of or relating to conditions caused by medical examination, treatment or procedure.

This is the 3rd leading cause of death around the world.

That's a horrifying statistic. HOWEVER.... how many lives do doctors SAVE? And how many lives do guns save? Or... texting while driving? wink

Evidently not the ability to comprehend the fact no one here has disagreed with you about that point. Not the 1st time you posted it nor any of the many times after.

Yes, unfortunately physicians are the worst part of my job. They appear professional to patients who come in for help because most people are desperate for something to remove the pain or cure the disease. The fact is that there's very few conditions that can be remedied by a doctor. More often than not, patients are being experimented on. I'm in the medical field and deal with physician documentation constantly. You'd be shocked at what goes on. If you've got a good doctor, keep him/her. Always get a second opinion from another doctor at a different facility before agreeing to any new medication or surgery.
