Hi there

A fair service charge would be about 1 -2 per ticket maximum which when multiplied by the numner of tickets involved would more than cover wages, cost of printing, postage etc. Anything over and above that is a rip off imo.

Another thing that bugs me is this pre-sale nonsense. ALL tickets should go on sale at the same time and be available to all comers.

I really have no idea how much a fair service charge would be myself, so I don't question it.

I appreciated the pre-sale on the U2 shows, as I paid a yearly premium for years on the web-site. (I'm sure that's considered a rip off by some too).

Hi there

Well when money is tight I do question such sharp practices myself.

Even when I had no money I accepted it as part of the price and based my decision on whether to go to the show based on that.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't see the point in getting all wound up about it when nothing can be done. Can anything be done?

If everyone banded together and didn't buy tickets from Ticketb@stard for any show, their prices would soon tumble..Sadly that will never happen while folk want to see their fav bands. embarassed

So what would be the alternative? Even buying directly from the venue, another source, or the band still involves some kind of service charge. One thing that tends to get overlooked is the convenience of buying tickets online. But I suppose some people look fondly back at the days when one would stand in line out in the cold for a few hours to get a crappy seat for a show.

And I'd be curious to see Alan's accounting figures to find out how he came up with his "fair" service charge, or did he just make it up?

I'm with you there Lily.

Perhaps if all bands did it like some do here in the states it would be a little easier to take. I loved how Steely Dan sold tickets to a couple of their Beacon Theater runs. Three different price levels depending on where your seats were, but all had a flat price. I got my lower balcony for $99. The tax, TM fees, service charges, venue fees were all included, and not broken down. The only extra fee was if you wanted a delivery other than Will Call or standard mail which were both free.

Yes, it still cost the same but for me not seeing all those charges broken down was a bit easier to take. Just tell me the bottom line. I don't want to see all the nickel and diming going on, with a $60 ticket costing me $99 at checkout.

Why not just sell them for the price they are (which surley includes a reasonable profit margin) and any postage (which is minimal, as they are paper!) just like those big successful places in the high street. What are they called again? Oh yes: SHOPS! wink

While I do think some of the service charges are a bit exorbitant, I don't see any alternative unfortunately so I just suck it up and pay it. Similar to the over pricing of movie tickets....

My view is if you want to see someone ie gig , you paid it I seem to remember there was a booking fee for the genesis shows and who wouldn't pay it again for one last chance to see live again

There are some things that burn my ass when it comes to the 'ripped off' category.

When I was in Sheffield last September I ordered a Green Tea at the Hilton where I was staying (let's say, like most of the Hilton's nowadays, it's not the poshest). They brought it to me in a big mug, tea bag already in there..no posh tea pot or anything. And charged me THREE POUNDS! shocked

AND in October, tourist area in Rome, near the Spanish Steps (where the guy dressed in the Roman outfit was on his cell and having a fag lol) a large cup of Americano coffee in a restaurant. TEN EUROS!!!

Hi there

More fool you for paying three quid for a cup of tea at the Hilton or anywhere else for that matter. While people continue to just meekly accept these things we shall continue to get ripped off.

We aren't supposed to insult people here.

I had drank the tea already, I got the bill. You are suggesting I refuse to pay as it's too expensive?

The mistake I made was not looking at the prices before I ordered.
