If you want something to REALLY annoy you, how about the number of UK TV ads using versions of Labrinth's "Express yourself" as the ad music. I wouldn't mind so much if it wasn't such an annoying tune to start with. angry

In many/most cases, you are right, but, if they are the last contestant, the other 3 have got through, and one or more has taken a big offer, they may well have a huge total, 30-60000 pounds. Lets assume 39000! If the final person gets only 1000 in their cashbuilder, and gets a low offer of -4000, it means they have a choice of, if they get through, everyone getting 10000, or everyone getting 8750. Given that, just by being there, the last person adds one step to the final chase tally, it's surely worth having them back, rather than risk losing the final chase even more?

Some players, particularly younger ones, are not so knowledgeable due to having less years to accumulate facts, but if the other 3 players are older people, that last player will know chart stuff, for example, so may help in a rare moment. There are times it makes sense, and I've even seen team members say "go for the minus" just to get the person back.

Must admit, I hate people taking the minus offer. Often it's people who tell others to go for the big offer, and then do the opposite themselves! rolleyes

Yes, that IS annoying, and usually everyone does hope they go out. But there are occasions when it makes sense, and even the other team members say "do it".

In general, whenever I'm forced to leave a message, it always annoys me... especially with an important job-related phone call that I've practised in my head beforehand.

Oh I agree. I used to have starting artist type friend who had this message all time. And she used to complain how she couldn't get any business. rolleyes

Many, many things get on my Ingrids, one of the most annoying ones lately is listening to people who answer a question by beginning with the word 'so'. What's that all about then? You ask them how something works, or what happened to them, or something along those lines, and they begin their answer with 'so'. No need for it. Cut it out and answer the question properly. And when the answer should be 'yes' don't say 'absolutely' instead, say yes! And when the answer is 'no' just say 'no', don't say 'no, no, no, no,' as if we don't understand the word when it's said the first time! angry

That'll do for now....... wink

The all too often miss use of the word that. If I hear one more person say "I think that...." I think I'll lose it! Just say "I think....". The "that" isn't needed unless you're saying something like " I think that woman is beautiful". Saying something like "I think that I'll go for a walk" drives me nuts! Just say "I think I'll go for a walk" for f*cks sake!!

Using "that" where it's not needed bugs me as much as people who write "could of", "should of" etc. It's HAVE!!

Ok, rant over. wink grin

As a non-native English speaker this is interesting. Especially since Germans just love to start their English sentences with "I think that" (or rather "I sink sat" grin ). I guess the version with the 'that' appears to us to be the universal one while the omission of this little word seems some specialty of the English language. In German the 'that' is usually required, it can be omitted only in rare cases. So as long as you still think in German you will automatically insert the 'that'. In Latin it is quite similar, those constructions with a corresponding word for 'that' follow the exact same patterns as those in German and English, the ones without it are a lot more special and don't neatly equate to anything in other languages.

In English, the example I gave, the "that" is redundant ( useless, and not needed). The sentence stands perfectly without it. The "that" adds absolutely nothing.

It reminds me of teenagers using "like" seemingly every other word. "We went like to the mall like to get some like clothes, and then we like ate lunch before we like went to the movies". grin

Ahhh yes, that's definitely another one! Even better when they're combined. "We went like to the movies and then you know like to get food". grin

Another very irritating one is when you ask someone 'Have you got....?' and they reply with 'I do!' It should be 'I have' (or haven't depending on the answer of course).
If you ask 'Do you have.....?' then by all means reply with 'I do', (or don't), but not if the question doesn't have the word 'do' in it!
