Is it worth starting a “Random R.I.P.” thread for deaths you’re sad to hear about but perhaps don’t merit a whole thread? or would it just cause arguments between forumites over the deceased’s perceived importance? undecided

(R.I.P. Steve Strange, who prompted this thought)

Strange (ahem) you should mention this as I thought about starting one for Steve Strange myself, and decided not to.

I heard he had alcohol and drug problems, that would explain the early death.

Speaking of which though, it made me feel sad, he's my age and I really liked the Visage stuff at the time.I met him once in a record shop in Sheffield, I was all star struck.

RIP Steve Strange.

I think if a forum member is moved enough to start a whole thread about a deceased person, that's perfectly fine.

I often don't know the person in question--particularly those British celebrities who are relatively unknown in the States--but those threads usually send me google to see who they were, which is educational for me.

(We used to have a forum member who always posted, "I don't know who that is, but R.I.P. anyway." That, in my opinion, is unnecessary and perhaps unintentionally disrespectful.)

I would like to add that I decided not to, because I know he wasn't that famous. I posted on Facebook along with a video, and only 4 of my Facebook friends responded to it in any way. I think most people wouldn't have known him.

If it would have been somebody more famous who I was touched by, I probably would have.

Well we have a new manager in Birmingham 6 , all they need now is to find out where the goal nets are and they might win one or two

I had expected a thread, TBH. Liked Fade to grey (should be in the soundtrack of an upcoming film! wink) but preferred the lesser hit, Mind of a toy, which crossfaded into Carry on up the vicarage nicely if you had access to a mixer. (I did, and have it on tape somewhere). Most recently, he played himself in an episode of Ashes to Ashes, which was sort of set in the 80's.

Mind of a Toy was my favourite also.
