Robert Redford & Nick Nolte in the adaptation of Bill Bryson's A Walk In The Woods.

The main problem is that I have met Bryson & have his autograph & his glasses & beard are very distinctive, whereas Robert Redford is... Robert Redford. He tried but he couldn't really get it right. It's a hard book to adapt because they walk the Appalachian Trail & some of the funniest incidents weren't used. Magnificent scenery though. It made a change watching something filmed in Georgia where there weren't zombies everywhere (Walking Dead).

Finally got around to seeing Spectre last night.

As a big fan of the Bond movies I avoided anything that would give me any sort of preconception or advanced info about the movie. But I did get a sense from various sources that the film was somewhat of a disappointment.

Well, now that I've seen it, I'm glad that I distanced myself from the mass media scrutiny. I think it's a great film. I liked the dark tone, the way the storyline revealed itself over the course of the movie, the throwbacks to earlier Bond films, and just the overall sense of involvement I got out of watching it. Sure, like any Bond film I could nitpick a handful of silly issues, but I don't think it ever got to the point of ridiculousness.

And I would say that Daniel Craig's tenure as Bond is probably the most interesting and successful of the bunch that played the role. His acting is first rate, although he does not have the classic look of Bond which I always felt took away a bit from his films, but still he does a great job. It's too bad that at this point his return for another Bond film is up in the air, or possibly unlikely. The conclusion of Spectre left things somewhat open-ended, so it will be interesting to see what comes next.

Anyway, as I said, excellent film. Can't wait for the blu-ray release so I can watch it again.

Oh, but the theme song sucked.

Excellent movie. It's not only a fascinating thriller about the US-Mexican drug wars, it's a personal study of the main character's struggle to do the right thing while wrestling with the moral ambiguity of the conflict.

Yeah, that sounds a little like a line from a critic's review. Just see it... it's violent but really good. cool

(Lily... it's from the same director who made Prisoners, that one about Hugh Jackman in the hole under the car. wink Ooops, spoiler alert! grin )

Duly noted Dusty and Henry!

Oh and Henry, the theme song won a Golden Globe grin

I just saw THE BIG SHORT. All great actors and very compelling to watch, I didn't understand the finer details, but more than I thought I would. Deeply disturbing.
