Timing and expectations can play a huge part in my perception of a movie.

A long time ago my friend used to give me unmarked videos to watch, I knew the title and thats it, not who was in in it, or what the reviews were like. . They were screening copies of new movies, he worked for Warner Brothers.

I saw a movie once called 'Shining Through' Melanie Griffith as a spy in WWll and Michael Douglas as the love interest. I know it was no oscar winner to say the least, and damn far fetched, but I was poorly at the time and sat for almost three hours and loved even minute.

When it came out it got badly panned, and won the razzie for worse movie that year.

Gee, that wasn't a very interesting story was it? I'm not going to delete it though after typing all that.

As for Richard Gere, he can do what he wants as far as I'm concerned, I'm bias.

Besides, if the Gerbil story didn't turn me off this sure wouldn't.

PS: I also live in a building in Florida with lots of ugly Russian men who have the stunning, 40 years younger mail order brides. Nothing much creepier than that, and certainly not Richard Gere!

I quite like Tim Burton, he has a unique "vision" but as time has progressed, it does tend to become the same "vision" again!

+1!

Edward Scissorhands was imaginatively off-beat, Sleepy Hollow was pretty good, but Alice in Wonderland was just Tim Burton-by-numbers with Johnny Depp being exceptionally irritating tongue

I saw the film, but don't remember it well. I do remember that a lot of folks were outraged and offended by the premise... ditzy white American girl gets wrapped-up in a spy plot in Nazi Germany, falls in love, and matter-of-factly decides to save a few Jews while she's there.

It also was not helped by some comments Griffith made at the time, along the lines of "I had no idea that so many people were killed there. Six million... wow, that's a lot of people." Moron. undecided

Rusty travels to Turkey at the end of WW1 in search of his lost sons and in the process, discovers himself and bridges the gap between two very different societies...

I understand.

The fact that you are even equating Gere with those slimy, sleazy, ugly, wife-buying old men... is satisfaction enough for me.

It's more of an urban legend, like the Rod Stewart 'sperm in stomach' story. Never mind. grin

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie about a young girl living in a very poor area of New Orleans who faces her greatest fears head on.
