Dark Skies....

Very predictable ending but I really enjoyed it.

Next up......

After reading the reviews I am not sure about this one

Best wishes

Rush - didn't quite realise how much Niki Lauda suffered from his lungs being burnt! Great film but then again, I used to love F1!

Loved the Senna film too! I'd recommend both films to any fan of the sport!

So did I, back in the days when it was exciting. It would be an real achievement to make a film about the current Formula 1 scene that would keep the audience awake.

I finally caught “Rush” on TV recently. What a great film, but you’d think it was quite unbelievably clichéd if you didn’t know it was true smiley

Does anybody else have any films that they like despite poor reviews, or on the other hand highly praised films that leave them cold?

For instance I’ve always liked Spielberg’s “War of the Worlds”. Yes there are some plot holes. If the tripods had been buried underground all along how come none had ever accidentally been dug up? How did the son manage to get to his grandparents unscathed despite last being seen running towards a ferocious battle? But on the whole I thought it a very effective film and surprisingly faithful to the original novel given its modern day setting. Far more faithful than the 1950’s film which was just basically another one of the generic alien invasion films that were all the rage in the 50’s. I’d still love a decent period-set version given the full Victorian steampunk treatment though!

Another one is Mr Wilkinson’s favourite “What Dreams May Come”, a beautiful film in many ways. I can’t help but think some critics just react against anything with a whiff of religion or spirituality about it - or anything with Robin Williams in it!

On the other hand I'm simply baffled by the glowing praise for “Blue Velvet”. The heavy handed direction, clunky dialogue and wooden and/or over the top acting constantly throw me out of the film, so that I am always aware that I’m looking through a camera lens at a bunch of actors being asked to behave “oddly”. To me David Lynch is about as unsettling and subtle as someone going “whooooooh!” in your face while making wide staring eyes and wiggling their hands in the air. At least I know I’m not alone though, I saw this at the cinema and it got more laughs than quite a few “intentional” comedies that I’ve seen.

I liked War Of The Worlds too. Good movie.

Lately, everyone seems to be dissing the last Terminator movie but I actually enjoyed it quite a lot. Certainly much better than the third movie...
