Thanks, Dust; happy to stand corrected. I used to be a huge Bond fan, but the decades addle the memory sad And there was that awful one with Connery and Rowan Atkinson around the early- mid-80s...

I kinda liked that one. But I don't recall what it was about... I only remember the women in it. smiley

Octopussy was particularly dire. At least Grace Jones being ridiculously OTT made A View to a Kill slightly more memorable.
Roger Moore certainly went on far too long & now Daniel Craig is starting to look a bit old to play Bond. One more film maybe, but at the rate they make them now that should be his last.

My pick for the next Bond would be Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, currently Jaime Lannister on Game of Thrones:

Not that I have a guy-crush or anything. I think he's got the humor and the coolness to make a good Bond. smiley

My pick would be Jai Courtney from the latest Terminator Gensys and the last Die Hard movie. A young Australian actor on the rise

I'd say that For You Eyes Only is one of the better films of the series. Octopussy a bit campy, but quite deliberately so, and I think fairly entertaining. A View To Kill though was a mess

Ah yes, Never Say Never Again.

That film was not a part of the official Bond franchise. It was produced by a different production company that was able to acquire the rights to the Thunderball story, which were not held by the Bond franchise producers.

I originally saw it at the theatre and thought it was o.k.
Watched it again when it became available on DVD and realized how bad it actually was. I have absolutely no interest in ever seeing it again.

And if one insists on over analyzing the Bond movies, you don't have to go far to find some incredibly bad plot points and execution in the Thunderball and You Only Live Twice Connery films.

I watched this on DVD yesterday:

I mostly enjoyed it. I liked the humour a lot, though I felt the plot was a bit simplistic and there were a few too many talky scenes. Not an instant favourite but I did like it.

The other point was that, general tech is now so advanced, (sat Nav, Smart phones etc) that the tech that Q used to issue is now all pretty much available over the counter.

Let's not forget the outrageously bizarre 1967 version of Casino Royale. David Niven plays an aging James Bond. The evil mastermind is played by none other than Woody Allen. Love the soundtrack.
