Finally got to see Ted! There were some lads to my right laughing and that added to the enjoyment.

I think Seth McFarlane was making a point about celebrities who have a brief flash of fame, and how they deal with life after. The use of scenes from Flash Gordon made me feel that Brian Blessed did a hell of a lot better out of the film than Sam Jones ever did!

Has anybody been to see the 2012 remake of Total Recall? I watched a TV recording the original Arnie movie last night, a classic of its genre IMHO. Coupled with the generally less than enthusiastic reviews of the new version, I'm left thinking "What is the point?" huh

I was thinking of seeing it, but I heard it was loud and dumb and humourless and entirely unnecessary, so I saw The Dark Knight Rises instead.

All in all, a very disappointing Summer for movies (at least the ones I saw). The best was Moonlight Kingdom, a fun little film with Bruce Willis and Edward Norton and Bill Murray.

Otherwise, the most interesting things I saw at the movies were the black-leather-clad behinds of Scarlett Johanssen and Anne Hathaway. wink

The recent remake of Anna Karenina with Ikea Knightley in the lead was begging to be parodied by French & Saunders or Horrible Histories! In fact I was told not to take the mick by my mum when I asked if Bill Bailey was under the piano in the obligatory dancing scene.

The staging of it all as if it were a stage play within a film was watered-down Baz Lurmann without the songs (or the Adam & Joe parody versions). I spotted Steve Evets (Adam's friend from 'Rev.') in the scenes with the ginger-haired labourer who looked initially as if Amy's brother from 'Everybody Loves Raymond' had joined a Jethro Tull tribute band.

Bjork should sue for the final scene of the grass within the stalls as it's so like the last scene of 'Bachelorette'.

I referred to Keira Knightley as 'Ikea' because it's what Mark Kermode calls her - re:wooden acting!

He isn't fond of the Pirates Of The Caribbean films either and has referred to another star, Orlando Bloom, as 'Orloondo Bland'!

I like them both, but often the roles they play--whether it's an elf in Middle Earth or a herione in a Jane Austin film--call for this type of acting. And of course it's important that no one upstaged Mr. Depp! smiley

After watching the Star Wars prequels, I felt that Natalie Portman was the most hideous actress on the planet. Seeing her in other things made me rethink that. (Hayden Christianson (Anakin) on the other hand, should give up acting entirely and become a street-sweeper.)

Went out to see this last night... easily the best film I've seen in the theater in over a year. Highly recommended.

Ay Dusty, you can't just put a different subject on the last post; if you're going to, er, adapt the concept of the thread, you've really gotta change the title in the first post matey tongue

Unless the next post quoted mine... then it would keep the new title. But I see your point, and I've changed the initial thread title. smiley
