Really? I watched half of it on a plane and just couldn't take it anymore. Very disappointing IMO.

It's one of those movies I had on while I was on the computer and doing other stuff. Maybe I only looked up during the funny bits. smiley

Breath-takingly, mind-blowingly transcendent. See it in the theater, in 3D and IMAX if possible. To the "I'll wait for it on video" crowd... nothing could be more ridiculous. cool

Thanks. It did at first--I'm on Firefox--then went away. I put a new one there.

I just watched Casablanca in full for the first time last week. Had to watch it for a 'Film and History' class, but I really enjoyed it anyway.

Recently watched The Imposter, which was ok but a bit of a documentary.I've no idea if it was supposed to be a true story . It was quite good but a bit of a let down at the end.

I also saw Broken City last night which is worth a watch,if you haven't seen it

I just saw Captain Philips.

Not my kind of movie, lots of men yelling and some disturbing foot things going on.

But it is very well done, Tom Hanks is amazing (especially at the end).

Recommend if you don't mind aforementioned downfalls.

Mind you, yesterday I was reading reviews about this film and I found very good reviews but also very bad ones huh. They commented that the 3D effects are, as you say, breathtaking and amazing to see, but the story is quite weak and some of the issues that Sandra Bullock has to sort out (I have no idea as I haven't seen the film and I am not an expert in travelling out of the earth grin) are impossible to believe.

Anyway if it is a good entertainment it is good, isn't it? that is what films are for!

I went to see The Butler on saturday. Not bad, but I hoped a bit more of this film. I have the feeling that they want to tell a long story and they jump from one part to the next one just hinting some aspects. Not sure if I explain properly.

I saw a trailer for The Butler when my mum and I went to see Philomena at Leeds. I didn't fancy that much.

I enjoyed Philomena, though I was sad that she lost her son twice - once because those horrible nuns took her son and her friend's daughter away to be adopted, and again when Martin, the reporter, found out in his research that the son had died of AIDS.

Mum now likes Steve Coogan! I'd wondered if his character, Martin, had a heart at all till all those discoveries came to light. Anna Maxwell Martin (the strict policewoman in Alpha Papa) portrayed Philomena's daughter, Jane.

I kept getting thoughts of Camel's Harbour Of Tears (Coogan is one of seven siblings in real life, so I kept thinking of 'I am one of seven brothers'...) as the diaspora was referred to - a lot of these Irish children from the girls in the Magdalene homes were given to American couples. Joni Mitchell wrote 'Magdalene Laundries' about the girls who were sent there, seeing parallels with her own child being adopted.
