Yeah, I could have done without some of the extreme close-ups and the occasional over-emoting. I'd also have preferred that the background music were louder, as it seemed they turned the vocals way up and the orchestra way down.

As a fan of the musical, though, I still loved it. smiley

I saw 'Lincoln' with my son in Cambridge on Saturday.

In a word - FANTASTIC!!

DDL is amazing and deserves the Oscar as well as the Bafta.

Go and see it wink

Two Little Boys

Excellent black comedy from New Zealand about a young bank teller & his best mate trying to dispose of a Norwegian hiker that one of them accidentally ran over & killed.

Don't see much from Kiwi land, but what I have seen is usually of a certain standard (like their neighbours Oz) & not to be dismissed off hand.

Red Dawn

Simply brilliant remake of the old Patrick Swayze classic, Red Dawn retells the idea of America being invaded, but they've brought it into the 21st century & this time, it's North Korea being backed by the Russians.

Superb acting throughout, absolutely stunning effects, action from start to finish, reasonable soundtrack, great CGI, full-on, hardcore entertainment.

Agreed.

The final vote is really tense (and emotional) even though you know the result wink

Cloud Atlas has got some iffy reviews in the Mirror and the i - and not because they thought the novel it was based on was written by David Mitchell the comedian, rather than the novelist namesake!

I'm a bit uncertain when Tom Hanks is in his 'I'm a serious Ac-TOR' mode (see Philadelphia, The Da Vinci Code), and the idea of several actors portraying a number of roles in the same story also makes this writer think of the Crunchy Nut Cornflakes ad starring Rob Brydon (as the breakfast show anchorman and several members of staff) rather than, say, a SERIOUS art movie like The Fountain that Hugh Jackman appeared in.
