Despite being a big Who fan I hated Tommy the movie, yes. The original album was far more palatable.

I loved Tommy the movie...and I didn't think I would, I just went because my boyfriend really wanted to see it. Was hoping the same thing would happen here with Les Mis, but no...not this time.... undecided

Has anybody seen this movie with Bradley Cooper that's nominated for an Oscar?

I watched a few movies over the last few days (see? There are benefits to being snowed in!) and I thoroughly enjoyed the new Al Pacino/Christopher Walken/Alan Arkin flick 'Stand Up Guys'. This movie gets full marks from me & I was really pleased to discover that it's not about comedians. A witty & at times poignant script, superbly acted & all complimented by a great soundtrack. Unmissable.

In the macho stakes, 'El Gringo' is a hands down winner, with loads of shooting & fighting & even a reasonable performance from Christian Slater, who hasn't made a decent movie since 'True Romance' IMO. If you like your action thick & fast, this one's for you.

Next up was 'On The Road', a movie adaptation of the book by Jack Kerouac. Again, a superb cast & a great insight into the alternative lifestyle of late forties/early fifties America. I love this movie, but I also love the book.

Next up was 'Here Comes The Boom', a tale of a biology teacher who takes up Mixed Martial Arts in order to raise money to save a colleagues tenure. Funny & heartwarming with some amazingly realistic choreography of the fight scenes. Henry Winkler is terrific.

The final outing was 'Trouble With The Curve'. Clint Eastwood returns to the silver screen in this tale of a leading baseball scout facing the realities of old age. An excellent supporting cast including John Goodman make this a worthwhile couple of hours.

Yet, they are still all stories told through songs sung by the characters, which seems to be your issue.

I was blown away. I even own a copy of the Original Cast Recording.

Really looking forward to seeing this movie.

I saw the play about that long ago, too. I haven't seen the movie, but I don't think the experience of seeing the movie can be the same as seeing it live. I'm not crazy about Ann Hathaway. She just did one of those trashy publicity stunts where she was stretching her leg to get out of a limo and it look like the guy who was helping her out of the limo was hiking up her dress and oops she wasn't wearing any underwear and oops a cameraman happened to be right there with the camera aimed at the perfect spot.
And I don't know why Hugh Jackman had to loose a lot of weight. Colm Wilkinson didn't look like he missed many croissants or pastries and he was the best Valjean!

A stage musical and a film epic are two very different pieces of work and are not meant to be competitive with each other. There have been plenty of movies made that surpassed the stage versions. West Side Story and The Sound Of Music come to mind.

Judging a film or actor by a paparazzi photo makes no sense to me. huh

Jean Valjean is imprisoned for 19 years. It makes perfect since for the character to have lost weight during that time. That's part of what filmmaking is all about.

This movie was not what I was expecting at all. All credit to Mr. Affleck for getting his career back on track.
Thoroughly enjoyed this movie.

I recorded Mirrormask this weekend because I knew Rob Brydon was in it.

I wasn't expecting to see him portraying the ringmaster of a circus (the heroine's father), a clown or a shaman-type character with a white and red painted face...the last was very Gabrielesque.

I would say this would appeal to proggers - and when I saw Rob with his hands to his face in the scene where the circus was losing money (when the mother became ill), I expected the Kate Bush and PG version of'Another Day' to come on the soundtrack!

The circus scenes also made me thnk of Nick D'Virgilio's involvement with Cirque De Soleil (itself now losing money). And Transatlantic's 'We All Need Some Light'.

Just wondering Lily, when does your "boyfriend" get promoted to being your "person"?

So he completely by-passed the "boyfriend" phase then?

Impressive!!

What comes after "person" in the relationship hierarchy?
