I use my guide when searching for a program just so I don't channel surf, and end up their show for even a second. I don't follow any of them but can't seem to avoid them whether it be in a supermarket checkout, skimming some internet news sites, TV commercials on channels their damn show isn't even on, and just about any event out there at least one of them pops up. It seems there's something about one of them somewhere at every turn....

Oh for crying out loud, you people. wink

Yes, I see traces of the existence of these Kanye/Kardashian/Jenner people, on magazines and on TV. I just don't care about them, and I most certainly don't let them upset me the way they so obviously do other people. I don't like the Honey Booboo or Duck Dynasty people either. I just don't obsess over them. tongue

First off Dust I most definitely don't obsess over these people. In fact I do everything I can to avoid them. I also don't let them upset me, hence the finding that flag at Glastonbury funny. I'm just sick, and tired of seeing them everywhere. They bore me, but sure don't get me mad or anything.

Second, you are truly lucky if you only see traces of their existence. I honestly don't know how you manage that. I sure as hell wish I could. grin

Ok, I have to ask: I know that Kanye West is some rapper who was in the charts lately. I couldn't name one single song though, except I saw on facebook too he covered Bohemian Rhapsody.
Now, Kim Kardashian: who is she? I've heard her name a few times but I have no idea what she does. Which field of arts is she involved with or trying to be involved with? Or is she that Paris Hilton type of celebrity who is just there in the media?

Unfortunately, I've known of her for some years now but I'm still trying to figure out the answer to this question

Hi there

Doing some weeding in the garden this morning when suddenly I discovered that I had an extra gooseberry bush that I had forgotten about and that it had fruited too! grin

I am vaguely aware of a parallel universe where there are “celebrities” who are famous for just being famous. Relentlessly grim soap operas that suck people in night after night. Talent shows aimed at flooding the market with lowest common denominator warbling and emoting. Reality TV full of people that I wouldn’t want to spend any time with anyway so why would I want to watch them? But I don’t watch much TV, and what I do watch I like it to leave me feeling better for having watched it, whereas this stuff leaves me feeling grimy, I just find it miserable, unpleasant and vacuous. I even worry that it may rub off on the viewers and affect the tone of our society…

I had some of Kanye’s Glastonbury performance on TV in the background on Saturday & it was pretty dull, plus the extreme egomania is rather repellent. Admittedly rap’s not my thing but nor is dance music, & Hot Chip were a better watch than Kanye.

+1, & then some!

One of the worst drawbacks is that we all get accustomed to self-promoting celebrities like the Kardashians making the news, which in turn leads to the “celebrification” aka trivialisation of real people. You’ll never get to hear about someone’s ideas, which might require concentration, if the media can focus on something like their dress sense & their motorbike .... rolleyes

That's why I long quit watching TV (except for important football games). I don't read any of those lower-class magazines either. I don't get why some people keep complaining about this celebrities circus when they keep surrounding themselves with it (not directed at anybody here in particular).

Hello! Speaking as a somebody who also doesn't read tabloids or watch much cable TV:

Don't they have the 'lower class' magazines displayed on the grocery store check outs there? Maybe they don't in Germany but they do here, and you can't help but have it in your face when waiting in line.

(Unless you are one of those sad Genesis fans who 'live with their mums' and don't do grocery shopping. grin)

What about Facebook posts, and google/yahoo etc. trending headlines. They are even on the BBC news web-site for gawks sake.

What about when you are watching your 'important' football games on the TV you don't watch (please consider some may find sports just as mind numbing as Kardashian stuff) aren't there commercials for upcoming shows and entertainment news?

Doesn't the new female Bruce Jenner face stare at you from every glamour magazine cover when you go to the newsstand to buy gum or a newspaper?

Don't they have 'Keeping up with the Kardashians ' show on at the hairdressers when you go to get….oh wait….

Pffffft.

Lol grin I get your point and yes, the stupid celebrities are always there for you when you don't need them. wink Just that we have our own stupids (just google for Dieter Bohlen tongue ), I've never seen anything about the Kardashians here, all I know about them is through the Simpsons and other American cartoons. Oh and the tabloids in the stores, why don't you just ignore those? That's really easy, I just look in some other direction. smiley

By the way I'm afraid I've been repeatedly coming across in the forum as a little stuck up with a 'we don't have this here' attitude. If so then sorry, of course it's not like that.
Your last remarks is interesting though, we really don't have TVs playing at the hairdresser or in waiting rooms and offices. I noticed that in the USA, everywhere there's TVs, I found that odd. Here they will just lay out tabloids and maybe let the radio play.
