Started three weeks ago, and I've lost 7 pounds so far. I'm aiming to lose about three stone (42 pounds) in total.

cool

You will feel so much better. Incorporating lots of movement into it will make you much stronger too.

That looks like you're doing it right. You have a much better chance of losing the weight, and keeping it off if you lose 1-2 lbs. a week.

Are you incorporating an exercise regimen into this weight loss goal or is it just a diet? Diet is without a doubt the biggest factor but some cardio, and resistance/weight training will help drop the pounds, and keep them off.

You don't have to throw around a lot of weight for it to be effective. Anything that works your muscles will break them down, forcing them to repair, and grow. The repairing themselves will keep your metabolism stoked even on the days you're not lifting, and in turn you'll be burning even more calories, which will result in weight loss. A cardio workout will burn calories too, but once you're finished the calorie burning stops. Finding a balance that works for you is the best approach, but if you could do 1-2 days a week of each to start,I think you'll see good results. I'd shoot for 3-5 hours per week total at first but really anything you do in addition to the diet is going to help.

If you need any tips or have questions about something, shoot me a pm. I'm always checking out new routines, and will be glad to share some insight.

Wow, all that sounds horrendously complicated & must require a lot of effort! undecided

Here’s a straightforward alternative which works pretty well:

1) Inherit a metabolism which keeps your weight fairly constant regardless of what you do or eat
2) Dislike most junk food, which makes it very easy to avoid the stuff
3) Get dogs & take them for walks

Sorted! smiley

Hi there

Just saw the first robin in the garden. Always a sign that autumn is on its way. Must prune the hogweeds! grin

I'll agree with #2, but the rest of your post......not so much.

Not everyone is blessed with a fast metabolism, and just walking isn't going to cut it. Sure walking is better than nothing but it takes more effort to lose weight, and keep it off.

I don't think 3-5 hours a week spent exercising is incredibly complicated nor unrealistic when you consider it's your body, and health we're talking about. A small investment in having a longer, healthier, and productive life,IMO.

Assuming you were lucky enough to inherit a fast metabolism. If you are under 45-50 you are in for a big shock later in life.

Umm, guys, I'm reasonably certain that Boredatwork was attempting a little humor there. At least, that's the way I took it, as the metabolism one inherits is clearly not under one's control. It's kind of a dig at those people who never have to worry about their weight.

As well as dieting, I attend the gym once a week, and I am making sure to take a good walk at least three times a week. smiley

Good job NSOV. cool

I think as you progress with this, you're going start feeling really good with even more energy than the previous week. It wouldn't surprise me to see you doing even more.

One last tip is to make this a long term life goal, and not look for a quick fix. It's easy to get discouraged if your weight loss levels off one week or isn't going as fast as you would like. Averaging 1-2 lbs a week is really good, and an amount that increases the odds of you keeping it off.

Good luck,and stick with it.
