Thanks for posting that, it made me identify my problem with English Electric. When they start off I think: yes that sounds good, & indeed a bit Genesis-y. But by about 4:20 Iím wondering: how much longer does this track go on for? which is something I never thought while listening to The Battle of Epping Forest or Fading Lights.

Sorry for the off topic ramble which would go better in the thread of complete randomness, but since Down & Out posted it here ....

You're most welcome, and glad you shared the good news. cool. Biopsy is a scary word, and the wait is as anxious, and scary a time as it gets. So happy your's came back negative.

At the moment I'm not too fond of Big Big Train *dodges a round of bullets shot by Nov* because to me, they take a bit too much inspiration from Genesis. In general I'm currently not too fond of a lot of modern progressive rock (Hogarth-era Marillion, Anathema and Porcupine Tree being major exceptions to this statement) because like Dust once noted, a lot of them try too hard to sound like progressive rock, and after a while the high-pitched Floydian guitar solos and whirling Banksian keyboard solos get a bit predictable.

I'm certainly not saying I don't like modern progressive rock. I do like it, I just feel, in comparison to 1970s prog, the modern prog doesn't feel the same "golden era" feeling to it. That's why I'd put several modern rock albums before modern prog albums, especially ones by Kasabian, Muse, Newton Faulkner, Coldplay, The Maccabees and Elbow.

I am also largely non-receptive to modern prog rock. However, Big Big Train and Porcupine Tree/Steven Wilson are the obvious exceptions for me.

This. An old article that I've recently seen again on why men shouldn't write advice columns.
