No the engine wasn't hot. He wouldn't have taken the cap off if it was. It was stone cold.

It's a Nissan Micra 04. Got quoted 1000 by a garage today. The bloke who services it came out and had a look so he's seeing to it at the mo. Might end up part exchanging it but I can't afford another car really, well not a comparable one. Most people change their car for a newer one. I'll be going down in the world as usual!

Hmmm! Look at this: http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/nissan/micra-k12-2003/?section=bad

Then look at this: http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/hyundai/getz-2002/?section=bad

Then check out the secondhand prices! smiley

Sorry Foxy, this laptop can't cope with opening those links.

By the way, thanks to everyone who's tried to help me with this and thanks for all the PMs, text messages, well wishes and advice. I have some real true friends. Thank-you! kiss

Oh, still haven't heard what's happening after two days. I don't know if that's good or bad news so I still haven't got a smile on my face at the moment! undecided

The upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. My daughter is coming home from college tomorrow, my son on Friday. Saturday night we're going to see The Musical Box and Sunday we'll hang out and watch football. A shortened work-week and then on Thursday a huge feast with the traditional turkey and stuffing, sweet potatoes and gravy and cranberry sauce, accompanied--as my wife is Italian--with a big bowl of pasta, and maybe some shrimp cocktail and definitely a couple of varieties of pie. A wonderful time with family and friends and fine food and drink. I couldn't be happier.

I only hope the plunging stock market and my panicky investment clients don't fuck it all up.

That sounds great Dust, (apart from the potential panicky clients!). Spending time with the folks you love is indeed a wonderful thing. Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate it.

Basically, those links list the bad points/known faults on the 2 models. Lots of them on the post 2003 micra, which is based largely on Renault mechanicals (They have owned Nissan for some years now). The Hyundai's list is much shorter, and they are very reasonably priced. I think you could trade up (newer) and break even.

Don't just take that site's word for it, there are others, eg/ http://www.roadtestreports.co.uk

Any news on the current car?

I echo The Ellanory`s words. The Canadian friend of my wife has invited us for Thanksgiving before and it was a real treat. i really enjoyed it, although Thanksgiving isn`t celebrated over here. A very beautiful American / Canadian tradition...

Happy Thanksgiving to you, Dust.

Thanks, SD. I find Thanksgiving much more relaxing and enjoyable than those crazy, hectic holidays that come the following month! smiley
