I half-agree. Though I highly doubt that Nigel meant any harm, it was a bit too much.

I cannot see anything insulting in what I said. Whilst I and many westerners find it distasteful, the fact is that some Koreans eat dog (and cat). If anything, I was poking fun at the ambiguities of the English language.

Nor me. I was just laughing at the fact that the signwriter was just too lazy to write Hot dog!

A sign outside one of the local pubs said "Burger or Dog plus Drink £6.95". Clearly "dog" is short for "hot dog", but I wonder if any passing Koreans might get the wrong idea. wink

Yes, I'm sure if I repeated this to the lovely Korean girl I see every week, she wouldn't find it funny either.

Koreans eating dog is a racial stereotype, like American Blacks eating watermelon or the Irish drinking too much.

I think we know you intended no insult, but perhaps you can see that some may be offended.

Sounds like Oz has a different tax year to the UK.

Given the North Korean economy and ruling regime, I'd guess they would eat almost anything.

However, while South Korea continues to produce better automobiles and electronics than the rest of the world, they probably eat better than we do!

Be careful Lily, over-sensitive British people reading that comment might be offended that you’re racially stereotyping them wink laugh

Well I am, feeling that as I'm British myself I have more leeway to do this.

The most common myths I hear living abroad about British people are:

The food is disgusting. (My favourite meal to this day is a Sunday roast dinner with lots of gravy)

They don't shower and smell bad. (Pfffft, clean freak here)

They all have rotten/bad teeth. (Which is bad for me as I have had terrible problems with my teeth)

None of these are as bad as the ribbing I have had from having an idiot Crack Smoking Mayor in my present hometown.

Apparently there have been more deaths caused by hurricanes given female names than by those given male names.
