A day at the Cheltenham Festival (Horse Racing). I've been going virtually every year with a group of friends for nearly 30 years and we're off again tomorrow. Breakfast and studying form in a lovely country pub in The Cotswolds, then a day of high quality sport, where the craic is as good as any sporting occasion. All finished off with a relaxing meal at the same pub, then a quiet drive home, once all the crowds have gone. Great sport and great company; absolute bliss smiley

The fact that The Raven that Refused to Sing and English Electric Part 2 are getting such good reviews here. I was going to order them anyway at some point but now I'm very excited about them!

At work we have an automated 'absence management system' line (I work for a big company). If you're sick, you're supposed to call this telephone number, go through the automated options (like your payroll number, what is wrong with you etc).

A colleague wasn't impressed with using the system and did a long and sarcastic email to the HR manager about his experience.

The bit that really made me laugh was when he referred to the line as 'the Tesco Value* range of voice recognition software. Except that would be doing Tesco a disservice'.

* for non-UK readers: Tesco is the largest supermarket in the UK, and their 'value range' involves stuff at very low prices. But the sort of range where you wouldn't be at all surprised to find the 'beef lasagne' actually contains horsemeat.

Sounds like the Birmingham City Council automated service that failed to recognise the Brummie accent! It took a local councillor (who I used to work for) half an hour to get it to recognise the numbers "foive" and "neoine" grin grin grin It even made Have I Got News For You a few months ago!

I think I remember that....my husband (who teases me with the fact that when I get annoyed, what he calls 'my Brummie accent' gets more pronounced) fell about laughing when he saw it on HIGNFY..... tongue

Another gem from my colleague's email included:

"Consider the plight of the employee absent due to rampant man-flu, desperately straining their swollen glands in a futile effort to follow process. Imagine the weight of their crushed hearts as they are told – quite mechanically – that “euarruaruarugh” isn’t a valid payroll id".

Thank goodness someone in our office has a sense of humour!

Being greeted every morning - no matter the weather - like a long lost friend ...............

......... by my chickens !! Seriously, they are so excited to see me when I open their ark and let them out every morning. I know it's a food orientated issue, but even when I've put the food down, they still follow me about like little puppies and always let me give them a fuss before they go off to eat, drink and be merry for the rest of the day! I do love my girls! grin
